Help - day program?

Hi everyone

My name is Mim, I live in Melbourne, I'm 28 and have had schizophrenia since I was 9 - I really, really would like to attend a day program for people with psychosis but all I can find are for people with depresssion and anxiety and occasionally eating disorders - please, does anyone know of a psychosis day program in Melbourne?

Thanks

Mim

Hello @Roadkill

Welcome to the forums, it nice to meet you 🙂

The topic you have raised is a really helpful one, just wanting to also point out quickly that unfortunately the specific programs and their locations cannot be discussed on the forums as this may breach anonymity guidelines.

There are usually day programs being run at Private Hospitals around Melbourne, but that just depends if you have private health insurance or how much you are willing to pay. It might be worth looking up what programs they offer at hospitals in your area?

Re: Help - day program?

@Roadkill Hey, just wondering when you mean day program, what does that look like. I know there are pre NDIS Day 2 Day Living programs delivered by different organisations in most areas and that may have a small group activity on psychosis. Would a local Recovery college help, run through the local health district or PHN. maybe a psychology practice in your area may have groups? Let us know what you find

@Lunar I was going to ask a question about experiences of the MHNIP program, which should be in most locations, is that in breach of the anonymity guidelines?

Re: Help - day program?

Thanks for replying

My schiz is quite serious, I can't work at all and socialising is extremely hard, I went to a day program when I was 13 and it was a safe place to go every week, we did group therapy but also sports outings and cooking and things, so I think that's what I'm looking for again.  I will look up what you suggested.

Re: Help - day program?

Hi there @JasJac and @Roadkill

It is fine to discuss programs, just not things in detail such as "today I am going to the 1:30pm day program at..."

Re: Help - day program?

I dont know of day programs however my brother used go to Out Doors Inc, they organise activities and he loved it. Not sure if it's something that interests you but you can contact them and ask a few questions. Thier website is http://outdoorsinc.org.au/

While I was on google, another site came up: http://www.each.com.au/services/?person_type=-1&service_type=mental-health-services&postcode=&search...

I dont know this organisation however they might have something of interest or just contact them and ask questions, they could direct you other services available.

I hope you find something you like!!!
