Topic Tuesday // Physical Activity and Mental Health // Tues 6th July, 7:00-8:30PM AEST

Re: Topic Tuesday // Physical Activity and Mental Health // Tues 6th July, 7:00-8:30PM AEST

How does it feel and what do you think when you do physical activity? Do you notice an impact on your mental health?

I feel a lot more grounded and present in my body - being immersed in physical activity like a sport can also take me away from the stresses of my life, and it feels good to only be just thinking about moving my body/playing a game and nothing else in the world.

Welcome @Determined 🙂 The cycling goals sound great, and you are right that the low impact on joint is a big plus. I would love to hear more about how you get connected with social riding groups

@Peregrinefalcon @Daisydreamer - I suffer from a heart condition and I'm currently waiting for my heart op which is on the 30th of July.

Having a disability doesn't help, I find that if I have a really bad mental health day it stops me from doing what I want to do.

anxitey can stop me from doing some physical activity

Question 4: For @Peregrinefalcon and the community:

Are there barriers or limitations to physical activity that you notice, and what are they?

I think self belief can be a barrier too. If you don't think you can do it, you are more likely not to.

Welcome @frog @StuF!
To give you a quick summary, we have spoken about our relationship with physical activity and activities we enjoy. We talked about what helps to give you motivation to get active, and what some of the benefit are for mental health. We are now having a look at barriers to activity 🙂

You are more than welcome to jump in with any of your thoughts, or ask a question a well

Thanks a lot Shaz, this topic is much needed and interesting to see the mood and different views /impacts from covid also. Deffinitely lost a great deal of my motivation with this happening also Smiley Happy Not such a bad thing that i don't do pilates anymore, Bike riding and hikes i know I'll get there again in my own time!

I'm really glad i decided to attend tonight and have a feeling i will try and make it to more discussions in the future. This has given me some perspective on things i never really took time to look at and spend time working through.

Take care everyone Smiley Happy

Physical activity can be in the things we are already doing and enjoy, like walking to see the sunset as you have mentioned, or activities like gardening. Starting small and building up can help with motivation-- good point @Daisydreamer@bipolarbunny

ohh hugs @Fluttershy1 , will be thinking of you xx

having kidney disease stage 4 with only one kidney , diabetes and arthritis doea not help @Peregrinefalcon

I want to know how to take first steps into physical activity from next to nothing. Even if it's just walking. How do I get myself off the couch and out the door? I guess I need some sort of a plan

Re: Topic Tuesday // Physical Activity and Mental Health // Tues 6th July, 7:00-8:30PM AEST

Part of my barriers is that I just don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to exercise.

Re: Topic Tuesday // Physical Activity and Mental Health // Tues 6th July, 7:00-8:30PM AEST

@Fluttershy1 health conditions and disability can be big barriers. I am sorry to hear about your heart condition Heart We will be thinking of you on the 30th of July and sending our wishes your way
