The inner child can be seen as a symbolic version of you. It embodies that vulnerable inner child which needs love and nurturing. This is the part of you that can be talked to, guided and supported as you navigate your way through the ups and downs of life. So what is it to chat to our inner child? Let’s come together to discuss this.
The event start times across Australia are below:
This is currently held in Australian Eastern Standard hours:
WA: 5pm
NT: 6:30pm
SA: 6:30pm
QLD: 7pm
NSW, ACT, VIC & TAS: 7pm
For anyone unfamiliar with Peer Group Chats, each focuses on a specific topic and is guided by Peer Workers with lived experience of mental health issues and recovery, &/or caring for someone with complex mental health. A counsellor is also present as a moderator to help ensure a safe environment for individuals and the group. It is a space for us as peers to share our stories and experiences, and connect with those who are going through something similar.
Peer Group Chats are hosted outside of the forums, using a platform called Chatwee. To join an Online Peer Group Chat, you will need to register for an account with Chatwee. On the night, follow this link and log in to your Chatwee account before the group starts.
Please see this FAQ for any questions you may have. For any issues on the night, please message the moderator of the group on the Chat platform. If you'd like to receive a reminder closer to the event, please support this post & we'll keep you updated.

Thank you for joining everyone!
Here are tonight's questions:
Q1: What do you know about the “Inner Child”? |
Q2: How do we find our inner child? |
Q3: Sometimes, we need to work on ‘reparenting’ our inner child. What do you think this means? |
Q4: What are some signs that our inner child needs healing? |
Q5: What can we do to care for our inner child? |
Q6: What can be some challenges of talking to the inner child? |
Q7: What are the benefits of talking to and healing our inner child? |
Here are some further resources we recommend having a look at: 1 Psych central: https://psychcentral.com/health/how-to-heal-your-inner-child#acknowledge-them 2 Inner Child Healing Exercises: https://www.carepatron.com/templates/inner-child-healing-exercises?gad_source=1&gclid=eaiaiqobchmi66... 3 Inner Child: 6 Ways to Find Your Inner Child: https://www.healthline.com/health/inner-child |
Highlight from tonight was from @7cough9 : I believe the inner child might be a way to think about how a person is a stacked tower of experiences. Learning to be mature does not destroy the person we were growing up, just adds a scaffold around it.

In the chat session there was mention of ASD and ADHD relating to one's inner child. I have been diagnosed with both ASD and ADHD, and I might have some relevant perspectives.
I know that neurodivergent children often interact with parents and teachers in visibly different ways to neurotypicals, and that may inflict costs carried by the adult's inner child.
